From Medieval Frontiers to Early Modern Borders. The Military organization of the Western Parts of the Transylvanian Principality in the XVI-XVII centuries (EMBoT)
With this research project we propose a complex comparative analysis of the Transylvanian western border in a broader European context. Through this analysis we will identify similarities, but also differences, between Transylvania and other important frontier areas of Europe in the early modern age. The research activity will be focused on the military organization of this region whit its economic and social implications. We will research the social and economic impact of warfare on the frontier area and the complex process of transfer of military knowledge and technology. Our purpose is to contribute to a better knowledge and understanding of historical realities referring to the Western Transylvanian borderlands and thus to a better understanding of the evolution of frontiers in European history.
